EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2023 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:

1.  APPEARANCES-CIVIL

·        All civil discovery and motion hearings will be in person unless otherwise noticed by the Court.

·        Initial case management conferences, status conferences and order to show cause hearings in re settlement/dismissal will be by Zoom video link.  Specific call-in/Zoom instructions will be posted on ECF no later than 48 hours in advance.  General information is provided below.

·        Parties without electronic filing will receive information by email. 


·        SCHEDULING days and times below still apply. 


·        Any deviation from the appearance standards above requires prior approval of the Court. The requesting party must file an administrative motion to appear by Zoom video link 5 days before the conference. If the request is granted, specific call-in/Zoom instructions will be posted on ECF no later than 48 hours in advance.  General information is provided below.

2. SETTLEMENT CONFERENCES

 

All settlement conferences may be in person or by private Zoom video link.  Confirmation will be posted on ECF 30 days in advance.  Parties are responsible for checking ECF for confirmation.  If by Zoom video, contact information will be emailed to counsel.  General information is provided below. 

 

The court will use Zoom Meetings (as opposed to Zoom Webinars) for settlement conferences and other non-public hearings.  To join a meeting, click on the link below.  You will initially enter a “waiting room” and will be admitted into the meeting by court staff.

Counsel are responsible for making sure that their participants are able to take part in a Zoom video conference. Counsel should ensure that their participants have downloaded the Zoom application onto a laptop or desktop with a working camera and microphone, and counsel shall do a test run with all of their participants prior to the settlement conference to eliminate all equipment-based problems. Audio-only participation is prohibited. All participants must also have access to email and a telephone throughout the settlement conference.  

3. BENCH AND JURY TRIALS HAVE RESUMED IN-PERSON.

 

4. CRIMINAL IN-CUSTODY APPEARANCES. 

Counsel are encouraged to confer as to whether a continuance or waiver of defendant's personal presence is appropriate.  If defendant is not going to personally appear, counsel are to contact the CRD for scheduling a telephonic or video hearing at the Court's first availability. If defendant is going to personally appear and is located at the Santa Rita facility, counsel must set the matter on the criminal duty calendar by contacting the CRD of the duty judge. Counsel are further referred to the currently established protocols for setting criminal matters.

·       Parties are not required to reserve a hearing date but should confirm the Court's availability at http://www.cand.uscourts.gov.
