CRIMINAL IN COURTROOM HYBRID CALENDAR:
Thursdays at 9:01AM for In Person change of pleas and Sentencings only. The Court will hold these proceedings sequentially at 9am, 10:30am, 1pm and 2:30pm. However, they will be set on the schedule as 9:01am, 9:02am, 9:03am, and 9:04am until the Court knows whether the in-custody defendants scheduled are, in fact, coming to the courthouse and are not in quarantine. The final timing will then be set to minimize gaps so that in-custody defendants are not waiting unnecessarily in lock-up. Out-of-custody defendants will be scheduled after those in-custody.
***************************************************** OTHER NOTES Order of call is determined by the Court. A Pre-Filing Conference for Summary Judgment motions is required. No changes to hearing dates except by signed order of the Court, by a signed stipulation and order or Motion for Administrative Relief per Civil L.R. 7-11 (See Standing Order in Civil Cases, paragraph 3). Compliance Deadlines (formerly "Compliance Hearings") are set Fridays at 9:01 a.m. For administrative purposes, Compliance Deadlines may appear as Scheduling Conferences on the public calendar. Compliance Deadlines will be addressed on the papers and no personal appearances will be held. An additional conference, including a personal appearance, may be set if a Compliance Deadline is not complied with. While the Court strives to address cases as expeditiously as possible, the parties are advised that the District is currently in a judicial emergency resulting from increased case volumes, COVID-19 backlogs, limited resources, and judicial vacancies. The District's weighted caseload by district judge is now the highest in the Ninth Circuit. In light of the foregoing, and to the extent possible, parties and their counsel are highly encouraged to resolve issues without formal motion practice. Parties, at any time, may also consent to a magistrate judge of their choice for all purposes. Parties are further advised that the Court anticipates being in back-to-back trials from the end of August through at least December 2022. CRIMINAL CASES: Cases set for a change of plea without a plea agreement, counsel are to use the Application for Permission to Enter Plea of Guilty and Order Form which is on the Court's website under Criminal Forms. There is a Supplement to the Application. This form is on the web page for Judge Gonzalez Rogers in her Standing Orders section. CRIMINAL CASES: In instances of a Change of Plea by a Plea Agreement, a copy of the Plea Agreement needs to be submitted to Chambers ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE of the hearing. *********************
