Public access  

• The public may listen to audio of any in-person civil hearing, or audio/video of a Zoom hearing, through the Zoom link on Judge Chhabria’s webpage. 

• A party or other interested person may request public video access. The Court may also allow video access on its own. Any objection to public audio or video access will be addressed before the hearing begins.

CRIMINAL HEARINGS  

In-person criminal calendar – Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. 

The following proceedings must occur in person with the defendant present, whether or not the defendant is in custody: 

• Initial appearances 

• Substantive motion hearings 

• Change-of-plea hearings 

• Sentencings 

• Hearings or status conferences about alleged supervised-release violations 

• Any hearing where either party asks for an in-person appearance 

Public access 

• Members of the public may observe the hearing in the courtroom. 

• Remote audio access is generally not provided for in-person criminal proceedings. 
  In special circumstances, and only if the government and the defendant agree in advance to waive Rule 53 objections, the Court may allow remote audio access. 

Zoom criminal calendar — Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. 

Criminal proceedings not listed above (for example, later status conferences, scheduling conferences, or trial settings) may be held on Zoom if both sides consent and waiver of any Rule 53 objection is made on the record. Sealed criminal matters may also be heard on Zoom if the defendant consents to a remote appearance.
