PANDEMIC NOTICE AS TO ALL MATTERS PENDING BEFORE MAGISTRATE JUDGE VAN KEULEN

EFFECTIVE MARCH 12, 2020 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:

1.  MANDATORY TELEPHONE/VIDEO APPEARANCES.  In light of the current public health emergency, all civil hearings, case management conferences, and criminal out-of-custody appearances set before Magistrate Judge van Keulen will be conducted by telephone or video. No motion to appear by telephone is required. Specific call-in/Zoom instructions will be posted on ECF no later than 48 hours in advance. Parties without electronic filing will receive information by email.  SCHEDULING days and times below still apply.

2. SETTLEMENT CONFERENCES:  All settlement conferences will be conducted by confidential telephone or video conference. Contact information will be emailed to counsel.

The court will use Zoom Meetings (as opposed to Zoom Webinars) for settlement conferences and other non-public hearings.  To join a meeting, click on the link below.  You will initially enter a “waiting room” and will be admitted into the meeting by court staff.

Counsel are responsible for making sure that their participants are able to take part in a Zoom video conference. Counsel should ensure that their participants have downloaded the Zoom application onto a laptop or desktop with a working camera and microphone, and counsel shall do a test run with all of their participants prior to the settlement conference to eliminate all equipment-based problems. Audio-only participation is prohibited. All participants must also have access to email and a telephone throughout the settlement conference.  

3.  JURY TRIALS CONTINUED.  All civil jury trials have been continued and will be reset on a future date.

Telephonic Appearances-TEMPORARILY SUPERCEDED BY PANDEMIC NOTICE ABOVE are not permitted absent prior approval of the court. The requesting party must file an administrative motion to appear telephonically for each hearing for which such appearance is desired. Such request must be submitted 5 days before the conference. If the request is granted, the party must contact CourtCall Phone Conferencing at (866)582-6878 in advance of the hearing to schedule a telephonic appearance.To ensure the quality of the record, the parties should avoid the use of  mobile phones, speakerphones, or phones in other public places. If your matter is vacated after arranging for an appearance through CourtCall, please notify CourtCall that your matter has been taken off calendar and you do not need a telephonic appearance.
